WebP Converter
Convert common bitmap images into WebP, the format most modern browsers load quickly. Everything runs locally using your browser's canvas encoder — your files never touch our servers.
82% — 75–85% usually keeps photos visually identical at a much smaller size.
Leave blank to keep original dimensions. Resizing reduces size far more than quality alone.

Manual
04 stepsHow to use it
- 01Choose one or more JPEG, PNG, or WebP images (up to 15 MB each).
- 02Optionally set a maximum width to downscale large uploads.
- 03Set a quality value, then press Convert to WebP.
- 04Check the preview, then download the .webp file.
Example
What it looks like
- Input
- 1600 × 900 PNG, 1.4 MB
- Output
- 1600 × 900 WebP at 82% quality, roughly 190 KB
WebP supports transparency, so logos and cut-out images keep their transparent background.
Method
How it works
The browser decodes your file and calls canvas.toBlob with the image/webp MIME type. Browsers based on Chromium, Firefox and Safari 14+ can encode WebP, so the conversion usually happens instantly with no upload.
If your browser cannot encode WebP, the tool says so instead of downloading a mislabelled file. In that case convert on a desktop browser or use a build tool such as sharp or cwebp on your server.
SVG is a vector format and is not converted here. Animated GIFs lose their animation when drawn to a canvas, so only the first frame would survive — use a dedicated animated converter for GIFs.
FAQ
Before you ask
Specific to webp converter, including limits and privacy.
Which formats can I convert?
JPEG, PNG and WebP input are supported because all modern browsers decode them. SVG, GIF, TIFF, HEIC and PDF are not supported by this canvas-based converter.
Does WebP work everywhere?
WebP is supported in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and most mobile browsers. For very old browsers, keep a JPEG or PNG fallback with the <picture> element.
Why is my result sometimes bigger?
Small, already-optimised JPEGs can grow after conversion. The tool shows both sizes so you can decide which file to use.
Is metadata removed?
Yes. The canvas pipeline rewrites the image, so EXIF, XMP and ICC metadata are generally dropped. This is good for privacy, but check colour accuracy on professionally colour-managed photos.
Privacy
Conversion runs locally. No image, name, or link leaves your browser.
Read the privacy policy for data retention, analytics and contact details.
Limits
Results depend on the input you provide and your browser. Always sanity-check important numbers before publishing or billing.
