Image Compressor
Reduce image file size without leaving your browser. Choose a quality level, compare the original and compressed file side by side, then download the version that looks right to you.
75% — 70–80% is usually hard to tell apart from the original.
Change quality or format, then select your files again (or re-select the same files) to recompress. PNG output ignores the quality slider because PNG is lossless.

Add a photo to see compressed size, savings and a download link. Nothing is stored.
Manual
04 stepsHow to use it
- 01Select one or more JPEG, PNG, or WebP images from your device.
- 02Set the quality level. 70–80% is usually a good balance for photos.
- 03Wait for the preview to finish, then compare original and compressed sizes.
- 04Download each compressed image, or download them all one by one.
Example
What it looks like
- Input
- 3024 × 4032 JPEG, 4.1 MB, quality 80
- Output
- 3024 × 4032 JPEG, about 740 KB
Actual savings depend on the photo. Images that are already optimised may only shrink slightly.
Method
How it works
Your image is decoded by the browser, drawn onto a canvas at its original dimensions, and re-encoded with the quality value you choose. Re-encoding discards some colour detail, which is why the file gets smaller.
PNG output stays lossless — quality does not reduce its size, so converting a photo to JPEG is often the bigger win. The tool tells you the output format before you download.
Compression is not the same as resizing. If you need a much smaller file, export from your editor at fewer pixels wide. Use the WebP Converter for an additional 25–35% saving on typical photos.
FAQ
Before you ask
Specific to image compressor, including limits and privacy.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser with the Canvas API. The file is never sent anywhere, and nothing is stored after you close the tab.
Why did my PNG barely shrink?
PNG is a lossless format, so a quality percentage has no effect on it. Choose JPEG or WebP output for photos, and keep PNG for screenshots, logos and images that need transparency.
Is there a file size limit?
The tool accepts images up to 20 MB each and processes up to 10 at a time to keep the tab responsive. Very large images depend on your device memory.
Does compression remove EXIF data?
Re-encoding through a canvas normally strips metadata such as GPS coordinates, camera model and timestamps, which is helpful for privacy.
Privacy
Images stay in your browser memory. We do not receive, log, or store your files or their contents.
Read the privacy policy for data retention, analytics and contact details.
Limits
Results depend on the input you provide and your browser. Always sanity-check important numbers before publishing or billing.
