Example
What it looks like
- Input
- 23 August
- Output
- Virgo (23 August – 22 September), Earth, mutable, ruled by Mercury
Tropical sign dates shift by a day in some years. Vedic Rashi is calculated differently and may be one sign earlier.
Method
How it works
Western (tropical) astrology divides the ecliptic into twelve equal 30° segments starting at the vernal equinox. A sign depends only on the date, not your birth year, which is why a simple date lookup is enough.
The tool compares the date against the conventional tropical boundaries. Cusp dates near a boundary can shift by a day because of leap years and timezone differences, so the result states the exact range used.
Vedic (sidereal) astrology measures from the fixed stars and applies an ayanamsa offset of roughly 24°, so many people have a different Vedic Rashi from their Western Sun sign. Use the Birth Chart tool to see both.
FAQ
Before you ask
Specific to zodiac sign finder, including limits and privacy.
What if I was born on a cusp date?
Boundary dates can move by a day. The exact sign depends on the Sun's position at your birth time; a full birth chart with time and place resolves it. The finder shows the conventional range it applied.
Is Western zodiac the same as Vedic Rashi?
No. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac. The same date can map to different signs in each system.
Does this tell me my rising sign?
No. The rising sign (ascendant) needs an exact birth time and place. Use the Birth Chart tool for Lagna and planetary positions.
Does my birth date get stored?
No. The lookup happens in your browser and no date is saved or transmitted.
Privacy
Your date of birth is processed locally and is not stored. We do not profile visitors by birth date.
Read the privacy policy for data retention, analytics and contact details.
Limits
Western astrology is a cultural and reflective tradition, not a science. Sign descriptions are general and should not be used for decisions about health, money or relationships.
